SITE UPDATE IN PROGRESS.

The primary focus of my clay work is the functional pot, formed on the potter’s wheel. Functional pots include objects such as teapots, mugs and bowls. I am most drawn to making functional pots because I love the connection this work has to people’s lives. I have also begun to expand my exploration of design and surface through the production of tiles and mosaics.

Generally, my work is designed for its tactile qualities as much as the visual qualities. The feel of the clay coming to life under my hands is a daily joy. The texture of stoneware clay, and its way of freezing a moment in time, has led me to use forms that are often altered after throwing them on the potter’s wheel. When my work is fired, variations in the surface enhance the interaction between the clay and glaze.

Classes

I have been teaching clay to all ages for over 40 years. I believe in giving the student the opportunity for creative expression in addition to giving them the basic skills to accomplish their goals. I like to focus more on the process of working in clay and less on the final product.

I am available for workshops and residencies.

I am currently teaching classes for children, teens and adults at the Cheltenham Center for the Arts. Detailed course and registration information for these classes is available at www.cheltenhamarts.org
