Artist's Statement

The primary focus of my clay work is the functional pot, formed on the potter's wheel. Functional pots include objects such as teapots, mugs and bowls. I am most drawn to making functional pots because I love the connection this work has to people's lives. I have also begun to expand my exploration of design and surface through the production of tiles and mosaics.

Generally, my work is designed for its tactile qualities as much as the visual qualities. The feel of the clay coming to life under my hands is a daily joy. The texture of stoneware clay, and its way of freezing a moment in time, has led me to use forms that are often altered after throwing them on the potter's wheel. When my work is fired, variations in the surface enhance the interaction between the clay and glaze.
